Music
Music at Nhill College is creative, culturally immersive and taught with a holistic approach. It has significant benefits to cognitive development and student well-being, and this is at the forefront of every lesson, where students are encouraged to achieve through a variety of fun and engaging activities.
Students from Foundation to Year 6 have weekly classroom music lessons, where students sing, move, play bucket drums, West-African djembe drums and percussion, ukulele, guitar, keyboard and digital music. Learning is sequential, designed to strengthen listening, concentration, memory and develop vocal/instrumental skills.
Music is a semester-long subject at Years 7 and 8, an elective subject at Years 9 and 10, and the College also offers VCE Music Performance.
During the year, there are many opportunities for students to perform at lunch-time concerts and other College events.
The Music Program offers:
Classroom Music Program, as part of the academic curriculum
Extra curricular Music Program – Current ensembles are the Junior Voices Choir, Junior Band (Primary students) and Senior Band (Secondary students).
Instrumental Program – private instrumental tuition is provided on a range of instruments
